The following shots illustrate (as good as a screenshot can) Gore's armor system. The armor completely blocks damage to protected areas, such as head, chest and legs. Each armor has its own "hit points" and will make a special impact sound and throw off sparks when hit. What looks really cool is when you shoot an armored opponent in the mid section with a shotgun, some pellets hit their arms, causing them to bleed, while the remaining pellets hit the chest armor, causing sparks to come flying off it. Gore's player models do not score hits off the usual "bounding box", you actually have to shoot the players mesh, and shoot an unarmored area to do damage. On top of this, certain areas of the body are take more or less damage than others. So its in your best interest to find a helmet to avoid a "head shot", which does severe damage. The first screenshot (gore23) shows the light player taking a shotgun blast to the mid section taking a little damage to her arms and the chest armor absorbing the rest of the damage. After a few more exchanged shots, (gore24) the chest armor was destroyed, so the light player activated her secondary mode shotgun shield, which blocks damage from her unprotected mid section and the blood and sparks you see are coming from her lower legs and the thigh armor. In the last shot, (gore 29) the light player ran out of energy for her shield and took a direct hit to the chest and face, which was enough damage to kill her and destroy her helmet at the same time. If you look closely you can see shardsof the helmet falling to the ground from the shot. These features combined with many others, make Gore's deathmatch very different from anything else.
